"My heart's in the Highlands, my
      heart is not here,
My heart's in the Highlands
      a- chasing the deer;
A-chasing the wild deer, and
      following the roe,
My heart's in the Highlands
      wherever I go."

      Robert Burns (1759-1796)

Timothy Pont surveyed most of Scotland in 1565. He died in 1610 without knowing that his surveys would be published by W & J Blaeu in 1654.

Ponts' were the largest scale Scottish maps to be published until the 19th century. The earliest Irish map is by Baptista Boazio, an Italian living in London, published by Ortelius in 1608.
